About Palácio Nacional da Pena - Sintra
Commissioned by Dom Ferdinand of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha in the first half of the 19th century, this palace is one of the world’s earliest examples (and the first of its kind in Europe) of the Romantic architectural style prominent during that period.
The surrounding landscape is as impressive as the building itself. From here you can enjoy breathtaking views of Pena Park and the region as a whole.
Pena National Palace is a prominent feature of the ‘Cultural Landscape of Sintra’ World Heritage Site as classified by UNESCO in 1995. In 2013 it became part of the European Network of Royal Residences.
