About Museu da Vila
Cascais has a new museum where it will be possible to scroll through the history of the town and county, from the Neolithic to the early twentieth century. The new Town Museum is divided into five thematic areas and features new technologies that interact with the visitor.
In its estate, the Town Museum exhibits the most emblematic pieces of the history of Cascais. These illustrate key moments of the region's past, like the Arms Banner or the Charter of Cascais, granted in 1514 by King Manuel I and recently restored by the village's council. Also in exhibition are pieces of the prehistoric era such as the Votive Sandals, funeral artifacts that accompanied the dead on their last journey.
The Museum also displays multimedia solutions that allow visitors to interact with and navigate through the history of Cascais. It is on the wings of a seagull (one of the local symbols) that themed tours chosen by the user, and on their own schedule, are provided. Also, the room lighting interacts with visitors as they approach a certain area.
